Why Start Yoga?

Yoga offers benefits that no other exercise can match: flexibility, strength, balance, stress reduction, and mental clarity — all in one practice.

The 10 Essential Poses

1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana)

The foundation of all standing poses. Stand tall, feet together, arms at sides. Engage your core, lengthen your spine, and breathe deeply. Seems simple but teaches body awareness.

2. Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)

The most recognised yoga pose. Forms an inverted V-shape. Strengthens arms and stretches hamstrings. It's okay if your heels don't touch the ground.

3. Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I)

A powerful standing pose that builds leg strength and opens the chest. Step one foot back, bend the front knee, and reach arms overhead.

4. Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II)

Similar stance but arms extend front and back, gaze over the front hand. Builds endurance and hip flexibility.

5. Tree Pose (Vrksasana)

A balance pose. Stand on one leg, place the other foot on your inner thigh or calf (never the knee). Start by touching a wall if needed.

6. Child's Pose (Balasana)

Your rest pose. Kneel, sit back on heels, extend arms forward on the floor. Use anytime you need a break.

7. Cobra (Bhujangasana)

Lie face down, place hands under shoulders, gently lift chest. Strengthens the back and opens the chest.

8. Cat-Cow (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana)

On all fours, alternate between arching and rounding the spine. Wonderful for spinal flexibility and warm-up.

9. Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana)

Lie on your back, feet flat, lift hips. Strengthens glutes and opens the chest.

10. Corpse Pose (Savasana)

The most important pose. Lie flat, close your eyes, and completely relax. This is where the magic of yoga integration happens.

Getting Started

Practice these 10 poses for 15-20 minutes, 3 times per week. Use a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing. Remember: yoga is not about touching your toes — it's about what you learn on the way down.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be flexible to start yoga?

Not at all. Yoga is designed to improve your flexibility over time, and it is entirely normal if your heels do not touch the ground in downward-facing dog.

What is the most important yoga pose for beginners?

Corpse pose (Savasana) is considered essential because it allows your body to completely relax and integrate the benefits of your practice.
